October Volunteer Weekend

Dennis Houghton – Post Author

Board Member and Trail Crew Leader

This is Dennis’ fifth year working with BFTA as a crew leader. Thanks for all you do Dennis.

This is the second year of our collaborative work with the Watershed Center, RCMBA, Trinity Trails Alliance, College of the Redwoods, and the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. This year, we returned to the Tule Creek Trail — a section of the Bigfoot Trail south of Hayfork, California.

    Tule Creek area of work.

The team was led by Jack Lienhard of the Watershed Center and myself — representing the College of the Redwoods and Bigfoot Trail Alliance.

Our crew of 10 dedicated students and other volunteers worked on maintaining the Tule Creek trail with tread work, brushing, and log removal. Slowly but surely we are getting this trail back in good shape.

We hiked Section 1 of the Bigfoot (Ides Cove – Hayfork) and that section was the toughest bushwhacking.

      I can imagine the challenge.

Thank you so much for working on it!

      Bravo heroes!
