Bigfoot Trail Town Guide

June 2, 2026 by Bigfoot Trail Alliance Leave a Comment

One of the most common questions we hear from Bigfoot Trail hikers is simple: “What services are available in town?”

Until now, the answer often required digging through trail notes, social media groups, outdated websites, and word-of-mouth recommendations. To make planning easier, we’re excited to introduce the new Bigfoot Trail Town Guide—a free resource designed to help hikers navigate the communities that make a Bigfoot Trail journey possible.

Hayfork, California, nestled within a broad valley of the Klamath Mountains, serves as the first major resupply stop on the Bigfoot Trail. Originally known to the Wintu as Nor’el pom, or “big valley at the base of the mountain,” Hayfork remains an important gateway community for hikers exploring the heart of the Klamath region.

The Bigfoot Trail is much more than a route through wilderness. It is also a journey through some of Northern California’s most unique rural communities. From the broad valley of Hayfork and the historic streets of Weaverville to the agricultural heart of Etna and the coastal redwoods surrounding Crescent City, each town offers its own character, history, and hospitality.

The new guide compiles practical information for seven key trail communities:

  • Hayfork
  • Junction City
  • Weaverville
  • Etna
  • Seiad Valley
  • Hiouchi
  • Crescent City

For each location, hikers will find information on:

  • Grocery stores and resupply options
  • Restaurants and cafés
  • Lodging and camping
  • Laundry and showers
  • Medical services
  • Public transportation
  • Post offices and package pickup
  • Local attractions and points of interest

The guide also includes suggested resupply sections to help hikers plan food drops and town stops throughout the trail.

While the Bigfoot Trail is known for its remote landscapes, long stretches between roads, and remarkable biodiversity, these communities play an essential role in supporting hikers. Many local businesses welcome trail users, accept packages, offer transportation, and provide the hot meal or comfortable bed that can make all the difference after a long stretch in the backcountry.

We encourage hikers to support these local businesses whenever possible. Every meal purchased, room booked, and conversation shared helps strengthen the connection between the trail and the communities it passes through.

Thanks to the towns and people along the way, it also connects a network of communities that help make the journey possible.

The guide will continue to evolve as businesses change, services expand, and hikers provide updates from the trail. If you notice information that needs correction or have suggestions for future editions, we’d love to hear from you.
