Oregon Big Trees on the Bigfoot Trail

August 11, 2020 by Bigfoot Trail Alliance Leave a Comment

There are big trees on most sections of the Bigfoot Trail. However, an exceptional collection can be found along a short stretch of trail in Section 17. Only 15 miles of the trail are in Oregon and along three of those miles, with a little searching, the Oregon champion incense-cedar, a 31′ circumference Douglas-fir, and the Oregon Champion Brewer spruce can be found.

Along section 17 of the Bigfoot Trail, one can find the (1) Oregon champion incense-cedar (2) a 31′ circumference Douglas-fir and (3) the Oregon Champion Brewer spruce.

In early August 2020, board president Michael Kauffmann led a group of botanists to see the botanical wonders along this section of trail, soak in the view from Tanner Mountain, and enjoy some really big trees.

Oregon Big Trees on the Bigfoot Trail
1) Oregon’s champion incense-cedar is 34′ in circumference and found near East Tanner Lake.
2) This beautiful Douglas-fir, with a 31′ circumference is found near Tanner Lake.
3) The Oregon Champion Brewer spruce is off the trail above Tanner Lake.
