Section 7

Siskiyou Wilderness

Bigfoot Highway to Smith River
Mileage: 43.8
Resupply: none

As of 2016, this is the most difficult section of trail due to lack of maintainance on the South Kelsey Trail between Harrington Mountain and the Smith River. It starts out just fine leaving the Bigfoot Highway and onward to Poker Flat. Passing several lakes and meadows in the north, it slowly climbs to the headwaters of the Illinois River, which drains to the Rogue River in Oregon, and Clear Creek, which drains to the Klamath. After climbing toward the south from Clear Creek, the trail gets tough between Harrington Mountain and the Smith River–travel with care here!
