South Russian Creek Trail

June 28, 2023 by Bigfoot Trail Alliance 1 Comment

South Russian Creek Trail

In late June we initiated our first Bigfoot Trail Family Trip. We trekked into the Russian Wilderness to work on a 5 mile stretch of the Bigfoot Trail.

The Bigfoot Trail Volunteer Trail Crew worked and camped in hail, rain, and thunderstorms–with some sun mixed in. The crew cleared a least 50 logs, diverted snow melt that made a stream out of the trail, and did rehabilitation to spots that washed out over the heavy winter. Thanks to this hard work and dedication the trail is open from the trailhead all the way up to Waterdog Lake. Above the lake we ran into large snowfields that blanketed the trail and covered the work to be done. Our crew this year consisted of families with young kids. The little kids did big work learning to safely use the different tools and the hard work that goes into maintaining trails.

Thanks to the Klamath National Forest Rangers Adam Liedl and Dano Hendrickson for saw safety and instruction. Thanks to Reece and his family and friends for the mule support.

Great work! Any insights on conditions for this trail (TH to Waterdog) in June 2025?
