Gunbarrel Camp / Kelsey Trail Stewardship Trip

Join the Bigfoot Trail Alliance for an eight-day backcountry stewardship adventure on the Kelsey Trail, one of the most remote and spectacular sections of the Bigfoot Trail. Volunteers will establish a backcountry basecamp at Gunbarrel Camp and spend the week working to restore this historic trail through the rugged heart of the Klamath Mountains.
The trip begins at the remote Gunbarrel Trailhead, with camp located approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead.

Distance to Camp: Approximately 1.5 miles
Participants will meet at the Gunbarrel Trailhead on Friday, September 18, with dinner on their own that evening. On Saturday morning, BFTA will provide breakfast before the group hikes approximately 1.5 miles to Gunbarrel Camp, completing trail work along the way before establishing camp.
Trail Work
From Sunday through Thursday, the crew will cross the Smith River each day and work uphill along the Kelsey Trail. This extended backcountry hitch gives volunteers the opportunity to make meaningful progress on a remote section of trail while experiencing the rhythm of living and working together in the wilderness.
Food & Gear
BFTA will provide breakfasts and freeze-dried backpacking dinners during the trip. Participants should come prepared for an extended backcountry stay and bring the personal clothing, camping equipment, lunches, snacks, and other items identified on the trip packing list.
On Friday, September 25, the crew will enjoy breakfast, break down camp, and hike back to the trailhead.
