Bear Creek / Stuarts Fork Brush-Out Weekend

August 20–23, 2026 | Trinity Alps
Join the Bigfoot Trail Alliance for a four-day backcountry trail stewardship adventure on the Bear Creek Trail near Stuarts Fork. This backpacking work weekend will take us five miles into the backcountry, where we’ll establish camp and spend two days brushing and restoring this beautiful trail.
This is a great opportunity to spend several days immersed in the Trinity Alps while giving something back to the trails that make these wild places accessible. Volunteers will work together, share a backcountry camp, and help improve a trail that needs some care.
Trip Details
Trip Leader: Jacob Shinners
Dates: August 20–23, 2026
Trailhead: Bridge Camp Campground / Stuarts Fork Trailhead
Backpacking Distance: Approximately 5 miles each way
Backcountry Camp Elevation: Approximately 3,460 feet
Participants may arrive and camp at Bridge Camp Campground on the evening of Wednesday, August 19 before the trip begins. Dinner that evening is on your own. On Thursday morning, BFTA will provide breakfast before the group backpacks approximately five miles to camp. After setting up, we’ll scout the project area and may begin some light brushing.
Friday and Saturday will be our primary work days, with the crew working uphill along the Bear Creek Trail. On Sunday morning, we’ll pack up camp and hike back to the trailhead.
Food & Gear
BFTA will provide breakfasts and dehydrated backpacking dinners during the trip. Because this is a backpacking project, what BFTA can carry and provide is more limited than on our typical basecamp trips. Participants should be prepared to carry their own personal gear, lunches, snacks, and assigned group equipment.
Come ready to work, learn, and spend a few days caring for a trail in the heart of the Klamath Mountains. No previous trail-work experience is necessary—just a willingness to contribute, work as a team, and get your hands dirty.
