SUMMARY:Forks of Blue Trail (Car-Camping Trail Work Adventure)
DESCRIPTION:SISKIYOU WILDERNESS · UP TO 4 DAYS (CAR CAMPING)\nJoin us for a long weekend of hands-on stewardship on the Forks of Blue Trail in the Siskiyou Wilderness\, where Bigfoot Trail Alliance and Siskiyou Mountain Club crews have been steadily reopening a rugged\, rain-soaked corridor. \nFrom our car-camping basecamp\, we’ll head out each day with tools and day packs to tackle the work that keeps a trail alive: brushing back dense vegetation\, clearing downed logs\, and improving tread and drainage in places where water and time are always trying to pull the route back into the forest. \nBigfoot Trail Alliance will provide all breakfasts and dinners—warm fuel for wet boots\, good conversation\, and the quiet satisfaction that comes from leaving a path clearer than you found it. \nImportant note: While this is a car-camping trip\, daily trail work may involve moderate hiking with tools and day packs and full days outdoors in variable early-fall conditions (heat\, rain\, and the occasional smoky horizon are all possible).

SUMMARY:Hell’s Half Acre — South Fork Trinity Trail Work Day
DESCRIPTION:October 18\, 2026 · 8:00 AM–5:00 PM\nSouth Fork Trinity River · Six Rivers National Forest \nJoin the Bigfoot Trail Alliance and staff from Six Rivers National Forest for a day of trail stewardship along one of the wildest and most beautiful stretches of the South Fork Trinity River. \nWe’ll meet at the Wildberries Marketplace parking lot in Arcata at 8:00 AM and travel together to Hell’s Half Acre\, returning to Arcata by approximately 5:00 PM. Want to leave the driving to us? Jump aboard the new Bigfoot Trail Alliance van! Transportation is available for volunteers who would like a ride. \nAnd we’ll provide lunch for everyone. \nA Wild Corner of the South Fork Trinity\nHell’s Half Acre follows a spectacular section of the Wild and Scenic South Fork Trinity River\, winding along ridges above the river through a wonderfully diverse mosaic of mixed-evergreen forest\, oak woodland\, grassland\, and rocky slopes. \nThe trail stays relatively low in elevation—generally below 1\,500 feet—but moves through dramatic changes in slope and aspect. North-facing forests support cool\, shady plant communities\, while sunny south-facing hillsides open into oak woodland and wildflower-rich grasslands. The trail follows the ridgeline high above the river for its first several miles before eventually descending toward the South Fork Trinity. \nIt is a beautiful\, rugged piece of country—and exactly the kind of trail where a day of many hands can make a real difference. \nThe Work\nWe’ll spend the day helping bring this trail back into shape. Depending on conditions and priorities identified with Six Rivers National Forest staff\, volunteers will: \n\nLop and brush encroaching vegetation\nImprove tread and restore the walking surface\nSaw and clear downed trees and limbs\n\nNo previous trail-work experience is necessary. We’ll provide tools\, instruction\, and safety guidance. \nCome Prepared for Poison Oak!\nPoison oak is omnipresent along this trail. Long pants\, long sleeves\, gloves\, and sturdy footwear are strongly recommended. If you are highly sensitive to poison oak\, this may not be the best volunteer trip for you. \nExpect a full day outside\, hiking and working with hand tools on uneven terrain. Bring water\, a daypack\, appropriate layers\, and a willingness to get a little dirty. \nWe’ll Provide\nBigfoot Trail Alliance will provide lunch\, trail tools\, instruction\, and transportation from Arcata for those who want it. \nThis is a great chance to spend an autumn day along the South Fork Trinity\, meet fellow trail stewards\, work alongside Six Rivers National Forest staff\, and help keep a remarkable trail alive. \nMeet: Wildberries Marketplace parking lot\, Arcata\nDeparture: 8:00 AM sharp\nReturn: Approximately 5:00 PM\nDate: Sunday\, October 18\, 2026\nTransportation: BFTA van available from Arcata\nLunch: Provided by Bigfoot Trail Alliance \nCome lend a hand—and leave a wild trail a little clearer than you found it.

SUMMARY:The Bigfoot Trail: Walking the Wild Heart of the Klamath Mountains
DESCRIPTION:The Bigfoot Trail is a 360-mile long-distance hiking route that traverses one of North America’s most biologically rich and least-explored mountain landscapes. Beginning in the Yolla Bolly–Middle Eel Wilderness near the northern edge of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument\, the trail winds through six wilderness areas and across the rugged Klamath Mountains before ending among the towering redwoods of Redwood National and State Parks. \n\nJoin Michael Kauffmann—naturalist\, award-winning author\, and Executive Director of the Bigfoot Trail Alliance—for an inspiring journey through the trail’s remarkable landscapes\, history\, and future. Michael is the author of Conifer Country and co-author of California Trees: A Guide to the Native Species\, recipient of the 2025 National Outdoor Book Award. Drawing on decades of exploring and studying the Klamath Mountains\, he will share the story behind the creation of the Bigfoot Trail\, the extraordinary biodiversity that makes this region a global ecological treasure\, and the growing community of volunteers restoring and stewarding the route for future generations. \nWhether you’re an avid backpacker\, a lover of wild places\, or simply curious about one of California’s hidden natural wonders\, you’ll learn how to experience the trail\, hear stories from the backcountry\, and discover how the Bigfoot Trail is becoming a model for community-powered conservation and long-distance trail stewardship. \nJoin us on Zoom at 7:00 p.m. on February 25 for this special presentation. Please register for the event below to receive the Zoom link. I will send out the link on the afternoon of February 25th. If you register after 3pm on 2/25 or if you have unsubscribed from Tuleyome’s emails\, please contact Geoff at gbenn@tuleyome.org for the link. \nThis is a free event\, however a donation of $10 or more is suggested to help support Tuleyome’s programs. If you have any questions\, please reach out to Geoff Benn at gbenn@tuleyome.org. \nREGISTER HERE
